Scott Berghaus is the 2007 recipient of the Clifton R. Cohn Distinguished Community Leader AwardKevin York is the 2008 recipient of the annual Clifton R. Cohn Distinguished Community Leader Award. The award recognizes exemplary service and community involvement by our community leaders to improving the well-being of residents living in low-to-moderate income housing.

In October 2005, Kevin York and long-time friend, Robyn Stevens, wanted to make the holidays a little brighter for children living in Phoenix Family Housing’s communities. With the support of Build-A-Bear™, Kevin and Robyn with the help of their families and friends began Operation Give A Bear and delivered more than 500 bears that first holiday season. In 2008, they gave almost 3,000 bears to Phoenix Family kids and their families.

Kevin has always been community-oriented. Besides supporting Phoenix Family Housing, he has worked with several community organizations, including: American Cancer Society, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Head Start and Wonderscope. A lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, he started York Contractors and York Construction Co. in 1980. Kevin now lives in the in Olathe, KS with his wife of 23 years, Patti, and their daughter Taylor, 13.

 

2008 Honorary Chair Scott Berghaus

Clifton R. Cohn, one of the many unsung heroes of Phoenix Family Housing. Phoenix Family Housing Corporation is honored to have Scott Berghaus as our 2008 Honorary Chair. Scott was the 2007 recipient of the first annual Clifton R. Cohn Distinguished Community Leader Award and joins us to present the second annual award to Kevin York.

Mr. Berghaus is dedicated professionally and personally to improving our community. As a senior vice president with Bank of America, Mr. Berghaus works in conjunction with internal and external partners to enhance growth initiatives needed to meet the bank's community lending, investment and service goals, especially for low-and-moderate-income customers and neighborhoods.
