Clifton R. Cohn Community Leader Awards
Our
world has many unsung heroes. People who do the right thing. They
don’t do it for the promise of publicity or for money, but because they know that it needs to be done and because it feels right to them. Clifton Cohn is
one of those people.
Mr. Cohn would deny, in fact, that he is a hero. In 1998, when Mr. Cohn and his company, The Yarco Companies, founded The Phoenix Family Housing Corporation, his goal was to make life a little better for the residents living at his properties. He believed, if we could connect residents with their communities and create properties that offered more than just shelter, then children, families and older adults could reach their full potential. What he discovered is, when people and communities are connected, places to stay become homes, residents take more pride in where they live, community stability increases and crime rates decrease. When this happens, everyone — children, families, seniors and our entire community — benefits. Mr. Cohn didn’t set out to change the standard for affordable housing communities or to create an organization that would become a national model. But that is exactly what his passion accomplished.
Phoenix Family Housing is proud to honor Mr. Cohn and the other "unsung heroes" with the Clifton R. Cohn Community Leader Award. Every year this award is offered to a community leader and residents living in low-income housing who embody Mr. Cohn's spirit of giving.
